Friends, since quite some time, I have been hearing about a catastrophe to occur in 2012 that some retarded journalists have been spreading on the news channels. The channels have been rerunning this nonsense since quite some time. Not only they mislead the people but this might also spread some sort of panic among people. To clear all the doubt I am providing below a detailed rebuttal to all of their nonsensical claims.
The ones in upright letters are the claims and ones in italics are my replies.
Scientific experts from around the world are genuinely predicting that five years from now, all life on Earth could well finish. Some are saying it’ll be humans that set it off. Others believe that a natural phenomenon will be the cause. And the religious folks are saying it’ll be God himself who presses the stop button…
Ohh…..but not one prominent scientist’s name features in any such claims. And the religious folk have been spreading such propaganda since the time world started. Armageddon and apocalypses has been their very effective tool to mislead people. Is there a limit to retardese??
1. Mayan Calendar
The first mob to predict 2012 as the end of the world were the Mayans, a bloodthirsty race that were good at two things:
Building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and
Sacrificing Virgins.
Thousands of years ago they managed to calculate the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar predicts that the Earth will end on December 21, 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it’s likely they’ve got the end of the world right as well.
It would be a disgrace if human race with all its Herculean development, starts to even minutely believe in what an ancient tribe predicted. If they were so good, their race shouldn’t have gone extinct. Moreover even if they really measured the distance of moon (which I don’t believe anyhow), its no reason to believe what they predicted. Distance between earth and moon is a fact but 2012 catastrophe is a prediction. There lies the main difference.
2. Sun Storms
Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery: our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it’s supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it’s been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse, and calculations suggest it’ll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012.
Solar storms have been occurring since the start of life on earth. They are a constant process. Its not something new and will occur in 2012 only. And solar storms indeed might be a problem but the problem will not be as to devastate the whole earth. Sometime back, solar storms let out particles which did affect our cables etc but to say that it will wipe out us is like saying that an insect will come up and eat up all the human beings. We have our magnetic core inside the earth which acts as a shield against many a particles and radiations emitted from the sun.
3. The Atom Smasher
Scientists in Europe have been building the world’s largest particle accelerator. Basically its a 27km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the Universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it’s properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They’re predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball.
This has to be the most ridiculous of all the claims. The particle accelerators have been since long time and the smallest of all particles like electrons, protons are thrashed in it. And a black hole forms of starts with mass more than 4 times sun’s mass. A mini black hole cannot be created. It’s like saying that we take 1 kg of Helium and Hydrogen; we can make a mini sun. And also, black holes don’t crush anything, they engulf it and completely break it. And noone knows what happens after that. How could anyone say that the earth would become a blob of basketball size. Too much of scientific ignorance.
4. The Bible says…
If having scientists warning us about the end of the world isn’t bad enough,religious folks are getting in on the act aswell. Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good an Evil, has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, says the same thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings.
Ever since all the religions have evolved, all of them talk about some sort of catastrophe. We have surpassed so many such claims till now in 2008. There is no reason to take anything seriously here. The sole continuation of the dominance of religions depends upon the continued fear of the people of something unknown. Thats how religion strives. Well, thats for religion ..and more of it is not within the purview of the matter being discussed.
5. Super Volcano
Yellowstone National Park in the United States is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. The reason for this is simple – it’s sitting on top of the world’s biggest volcano, and geological experts are beginning to get nervous sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we’re many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.
Lets take mount Everest as our super volcano since no volcano can be bigger than it. The total volume of Mt. Everest is 2413 cubic kilometers. Out of this volume lot of it will be comprised of molted magma. Not less than half of it. Now lets assume rest half is ash. So we have around 1206 cubic Kms of ash. Out of that, only some part will be thrown out to the atmosphere. The surface area of earth itself is 510,065,600 sq. Km. Is it imaginable that that much ash will cover whole of earth? No. Remember the calculation is for Mt Everest, this so called super volcano will definitely be lesser that it in volume.
6. The Physicists
This one’s case of bog-simple maths mathematics. Physicists at Berekely Uni have been crunching the numbers. and they’ve determined that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they’re claiming their calculations prove, that we’re all going to die, very soon – while also saying their prediction comes with a certainty of 99 percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs.
I don’t think any physicist deserves to be called one, when he predicts something but will not say the reason for saying such. They are nothing but failed astrologers seeking some desperate attention.
7. Slip-Slop-Slap-BANG!
We all know the Earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that sheilds us from most of the sun’s radiation. What you might not know is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a nasty habit of swapping places every 750,000 years or so – and right now we’re about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have noted that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points to a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is underway, the magnetic field is disrupted and will eventually disappear, sometimes for up to 100 years. The result is enough UV outdoors to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.
The shift of poles is something noone knows when it repeats even if it does repeat. And even if it does shift, the earth’s magnetic core will always produce magnetic field which shall act as a shield against the radiations. Fields don’t vanish out of the blue. They are a property of a substance just like water has surface tension wherever it is.
Moreover if the shift has already started, why don’t we have crisp skinned dead bodies everywhere in the streets? A pole shift may damage phones line, satellite comms. and all those processes which gets affected due to the magnetic field but it would happen that all of us just one fine day get out of the house and get fried.
The journalists esp the hindi news channels in their race for high TRPs resort to all sorts of gimmicks. One of them is to induce a fear into the public. Please don’t pay attention to such brainless propaganda. These journalists have absolutely no knowledge of science and the universe. All they know is to pick some info from here and there and show it as breaking news.
Lastly, I would like to say that the world might end in 2012 but in a different way. That is through a nuclear war. If we don’t stop our petty prejudices from ruling our decisions we might end up in a situation where a nuclear war would be indispensable. And then my dear friends, our home, in fact our only home will be destroyed. The beauty of life which blossomed sometime a million years ago as a single cell would be lost. And remember, we haven’t been able to find life anywhere near earth. Just imagine how precious it is. Don’t hate your fellow human, for even millions of light years far from here, there isn’t a life form similar to him.

Yep, Earth is prone for disaster(s) any time, (which would be caused by none but human, at the base), but could (/should) not believe it ‘ll wash away the earth.
Mother Earth exists since 4.5 BILLION years AGO. And this Human race popped up only before some 5 lakh years ago [Not even a million]. We are just “ants” and it is laughable that we guess earth will perish by 2012.

What is the possibility of a Natural Calamity? Does any scientist predict that….?!
I am not saying, the predictions and religious beliefs are truth to whatever extend that can mean…there are uncertainties….even in Science and that is the cause of apprehension and uncertainty, right?!
This uncertainty is what is being claimed as this or that……!! Ain’t it?!

Ans: The possibility of a natural calamaity is as good or as bad as any other day today. Natural calamities can come anytime, theres no denying that. But there is nothing special on that year that it will happen then only. Thats what i am saying. And as for scirntist predicting that, no they havn’t. They havn’t because there is nothing has happened till now to signal anything drastic happening in 2012.
Now, coming to uncertainities. See, uncertainity was there, is there and will be there. (See Hiesenbergs uncertainity prionciple) . But there is uncertainity when u switch on ur computer that it wont start but even then it starts 99 out of 100 times. isint it!!…Uncertainity is there when u eat quinine tablets to treat malayria still worldover it is used to treat malayria. So, uncertainity being present cannot be an excuse to say that on some particular day, apocalypse will occur. Because that amount of uncertainity was always there before also and is present today also. So, it does not make sense to have any fears for this year 2012.
Finally, i agree we have loopholes in science. And science keeps on changing its theories making them more accurate. Science is the tool available to mankind which has brought mankind to the modern age from the ape-man period. Unlike religion which is totally rigid and is never open for debate and corrections, science is totally based on continously inproving itself by debates, arguments, ne wtheories. So, its the best bet that any of us have to listen to the scientists saying anything about 2012 and thankfully they all feel only thing about 2012, thal all of this 2012 business is nonsense.

Yo man, We earthlings not only think too much about oursleves but overestimate our smartness as well. While our unending stupidity is already showing signs of creating big trouble. Also 1 correction i want to point out. See, we are nothing compared to earth, agreed, but when we talk about saving earth or earth will end by 2012, it actually means that the life supporting systems of earth will stop. The earth will always be there. No body, no race, no species can completely annihilate it. But surely we hav become capable of ruining every life supporting system on earth. I know the choice of words i.e. “save the world” is wrong, but what can we expect of our generation which will be looked upon as an extremely stupid by the coming generations.

No no yaar. Be sure, your comment was taken in completely good spirits. In fact, these are the type of comments i wish to recieve, believe me. Such comments make me write more and explain more which i might have missed in the original post. No worries, no issue with that. And i will try to be more informative that before. Just that there were some such lame excuses for 2012 apocalypse that i really did not know what to write to refute them. Like the 6th point. It says that some physiciats somewhere are just doing some maths and determined that world ends in 2012. I mean, how can i refute such a claim which gives no information about how earth will end in 2012 and who are these scientists and what is there field of study.
All good things come to an end….. well I hope it is not 2012…… I don’t want to be alive to witness that

The planets revolving around the same will go astray..since sun’s gravitional force is what that holds the concept of revolution… and when they do so.. there are lotsa chances for the Earth to get trapped in a black hole or hit another planet or a space object leading to its own destruction …

Hey thats so wrong. You are trying to put all the scientific research and religious-mystic-legends at the same level. Science says that it does not know everything but is able to achieve everything what we have today. Religions say they know everything but all they have done is divide the people and create ill-feelings between them. Both the faculties dont knowthe complete truth but 1 defenitely knows more than infinite times than the other. And we have to accept that because the world that we hyave today is completely because of it only.
whatever is decided to happen for whatever this or that will surely happen to whatever this or that whenever it is decided to happen however..

Superb man.. so the scientist is out to destroy the myths created by mews channels.. I agree to most of the points except the Mayan Calender stuff.. because last year I had seen a documentory on Net Geo on Mayan Civilization. I was not regarding this Doom’s Day in 2012, simple analysis of Mayan people and their advances in different sectors. I was really impressed by their accuracy of building calenders and their grip on astrophysics. I also have a veryyy small interest in astrophysics and from that very small base, I was a bit moved, if not convinced, that their prediction might have some substance. Of course we do not have any scientific proof to prove it, but I would suggest you to check out that documentry of Net Geo if you get a hand on it. They were not the people who “only sacrificed virging and made calenders”, they had a very highly advanced (compared to the civilizations of that era) astrophysics science as well.. but still I am not sure if the world ends in 2012. To be frank, I dont care if it ends tomorrow, because I always believe that the day I die, world has ended for me. Because the world only matters to us till we are alive. The day we are gone, none of the happenings of earth are going to be of any concern to us. Well thats my thinking. And I know it stinks!!

Hi Anto…What you say is absolutely correct. If the sun expands whihc it will someday, it will engulf Mercury, venus, earth and maybe Mars and earth will no longer exist. Or if the sun disappears, all the planets will be thrown radially outwards in the tangential direction. But none of these events will occur in the lifetime of even our 10000 grand children. The sun has a life left of more than a billion years. So, thats why i said that the earth will always be there. And sun becoming a black hole is a very rare possibility as the research till now has shown that stars weighing more than 3-4 times of sun’s mass only become black holes. Our sun on its death will firstexpand and engulf teh nearer planets, then it will stay expanded for lacs of years ( red giant), then it will start shrinking and keep on doing that till it becomes a neutron star.
As for the possibility, well anything is possible!!…Physics is 1 subject where weirdness has no limits. A single electron is present at more tahn 1 place at a time, virtual particles take energy form the future and then return it back….he he he..

Now , coming to the mayans, i do agree that they wree good and advanced. They may have some good star observing skills. But even if they could locate the stars and find out directions and understand a little bit about the universe, we must remember that these are facts. And 2012 dooms day is a prediction. Thats where lies the main difference. And any prediction without any accompanying research work is meaningless. Even our civilization( harappa and mohenjadaro) was quite advanced, even the egyptians if we may say as they build pyramids based on the star locations. But knowing to build canals or roads or locate stars does not mean they could predict something about the earth. That too when they did not know about earths core, solar winds, ionosphere, ecological balance, tectonic shifts, polar ice caps, composition of air, greenhouse effect etc.

Natural calamity means natural disaster which is caused by nature. Every year many country falls victim to various natural calamities. They are flood, earthquakes & many other natural calamities. The effects of the natural calamities beggar description. They leave a vast trail of devastation. The affected people & animals suffer untold sufferings. They cause heavy damage to our life & properties. Houses are destroyed, cattle are washed away, crops are greatly damaged and trees are uprooted. Thousands of people and other animals remain without food for many days. The after effect of some natural calamities are more serious. Famine breaks out. Many people & animals die for want of food. The prices are all necessary things go up. Many dangerous diseases like cholera, typhoid and dysentery etc. break out in an epidemic form. By raising public awareness and taking necessary precautionary measures and steps natural calamities can be prevented. The government and all the conscious citizens should come forward with concerted efforts to prevent natural calamities.
