As they say that the road of success is always under construction, the same cannot be said for the road of destruction. We humans, even with all our knowledge of the implications of our deeds, have almost completed the paving of the road to our self destruction. And we have done a damn good job at it. Nature shall remember that the race that was its finest creation, the race which was way beyond in intelligence than any other, went on to destroy not only itself but also other life forms too.
We humans, the elites of all life forms are continuously polluting our environment. Little do we know that how delicate the balance is of life and the nature? This balance can be compared to the balance that a house of cards possesses. A little of push and the cards fall. Similar is the condition of life on earth. Though we seem to be completely oblivious to this fact and continue in our destructive habits unabated. Life on earth started after an enormous number of coincidences which is very very rare occurrence. And that’s why we haven’t been able to find out life elsewhere. But this very delicate balance between life and nature is being disturbed by the very life form who depends on it. Let me give some idea about this balance and how we are disturbing it.
We know that CO2 is a harmful gas as it is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse effect means that it is able to trap heat. Now we with our crores of vehicles, millions of factories are continuously producing more and more CO2. The increase in CO2 means the suns heat is trapped and as a result, the average temperature increases. Due to this increase in temperature, many other effects will take place which in turn themselves which result in further increase in temperature. It’s just a chain reaction, a sort of time bomb waiting to go off. We just need to trigger it, and you bet, we are doing it. When it gets completely triggered, an avalanche will come where one event will trigger another and it will trigger another and God knows what all catastrophes will occur.
Lets understand this avalanche and how it will occur.
1) Animal Life on earth depends on Oxygen for its survival. Without it, we would finish in 10 minutes. This oxygen is produced mainly by 2 ways, firstly by plants on land and secondly by Phytoplankton in oceans. This Phytoplankton is so important that it produces almost half of total oxygen we have in the atmosphere. Now our continuous dumping of the oceans with chemicals and also increasing the temperature results in the destroying of the Phytoplankton. When they finish so does their ability to produce oxygen. So we will have less of Oxygen. Now, apart from producing Oxygen, Phytoplankton also took in CO2 resulting in a balance. Due to the destruction of Phytoplankton, there will no one to take in this CO2 which will further result in temperature increase. More of CO2 will get dissolved in the oceans and result in acidifying of them. This will mean death of many a marine species which will not be able to adapt to acidic water. Add to that that there will almost half of oxygen for us to breathe. The lakes and rivers will evaporate, trees will die and we will have a desert. Isint that horribly scary???
2) Now increase in CO2 will result in another event. Frozen Lakes in Siberia spread for millions of sq kms. Now these frozen lakes contain a layer of Permafrost. This Permafrost when melts produce Methane. Methane is highly combustible gas and its greenhouse properties are more than 20 times than of CO2. And when a big part of it melts, it would release billions of tonnes of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere. What shall happen then, is the temperature rise would shoot up temperature like anything resulting in more release of Methane, less of Oxygen, more of CO2 and we wont be able to live on land.
3) Another effect of increase in temperature will result in the altering of the cycle flow of ocean currents. The warm currents flow near the sea surface while the cold ones flow much below the surface. This ocean current is like a conveyor belt which spreads around the whole of earth from one continent to another. This results in the much needed distribution of heat due to which Life on land and water is possible. A temperature increase and its acidification will result in stopping this movement of current and our oceans will die. Their death will mean less of Oxygen for us, frequent storms of the enormous power, no sea food, acid rains … the list goes on.
Above are the main and prominent effects that will occur. There can be a thousand of local effects which will be felt by people throughout the world. It’s high time that the earthlings recognize the extreme delicate balance they have with nature. All we have in the name of environment saving are some publicity gimmicks. Nothing is changing if we just make some little adjustment here and there and then continue our lifestyle. Our whole efforts lie in just lowering the rate at which we are polluting. We are not in any way going for cleaning the pollution we have created. Something which will really make a difference is complete stop in the pollution process and then after a process to clean the environment. Till that is done, we are just living in fool’s paradise and we shall pay for it. If we continue in our mindless acts on the name of economic prosperity, the after effects will be horrendous.
There’s no meaning in having big buildings, cars, airplanes, trains, malls, computers etc if we couldn’t live to use them…the stupid selfish morons who rule the world seem to think it does?

Humans have kicked off an irreversible process…..never know when it is going to create another BIG BANG theory…..this time it won’t be start of a new life…but end of many things!!!
small examples of how a destructive chain reaction can be.. noone would have thought of such consequences when the first steam engine would have been operated successfully ot when the first automobile took on the roads.. of course it is too late to repent our actions.. all we can do is some damage control.. but the damage is way too far from being controlled it seems! great article buddy.. I hope it motivates someone to waste less water, papers and petrol after reading it.. keep writing!!
Happy Blogging!!!
